Black History Month: NYC Edition

February 26, 2021

Throughout February, Discover_TMA is celebrating Black History Month by spotlighting those making history NOW. Take a journey with us as we travel across Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and New York City, highlighting Black-owned businesses and restaurants, Black influencers and artists, Black history facts, and nonprofits making a difference in the Black community. Celebrate those making history with us, TMA style!

We’re rounding out this cross-country tour in New York City.

While this celebration is all about the present, we’re starting with the past. Here are five NYC Black history facts to know.

From fish to vintage to haircare and more, here are five Black-owned businesses and five Black-owned restaurants in New York City to support and spend your money.

Follow and get to know these five NYC bloggers, influencers, and activists on the front lines of creating culture and driving change.

Here are five nonprofits that serve the NYC Black community (and beyond) worth knowing and supporting.

Make sure to check out Discover_TMA’s Black History Month playlist on Spotify where each week five songs by Black artists from a featured city will be added. NYC brings us home with JAY-Z, Run DMC, OSHUN, and more. Enjoy!

Not NYC based? Check out our other BHM city lists: Dallas, Chicago, and Los Angeles and Forbes’ 100 Black-Owned Businesses to Support HERE.

A special thank you to Discover_TMA and Indigo Charles for leading TMA’s Black History Month programming and Amanda Kojsank for her wonderful creative.
