Actors and Actresses to Watch: Fall 2020

In today’s social media and streaming environment, it only takes one big role for up-and-comers to become overnight sensations.

For Millennials and Gen Zers, this sudden ascent includes watching their social following quickly grow from a few thousand to millions of people anticipating their next posts. TMA tracks social trends, music, film releases, and buzzy shows to predict which new talent will become big names.

Check out some of the new faces and shows currently on our radar.


Lexi Underwood is an American actress and singer. She is best known for her starring role in the critically acclaimed Hulu series, Little Fires Everywhere. She was also recently cast for an episode on Criminal Minds, and is set to star in the upcoming 2021 movie, Sneakerella.


Jo Ellen Pellman is an American actress best known for being cast in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, as well as her recently finished production on the film, The Prom. She is expected to start becoming a familiar face in Hollywood in the next coming years.


Ariana DeBose is an actress, singer, and dancer who is best known for her roles in Hamilton as well as her appearance on So You Think You Can Dance. She is slated to perform in West Side Story in 2021.


Tanner Buchanan is an American actor who is best known for his roles as Leo Kirkman in the political drama Designated Survivor on ABC, and Robby Keene in the Netflix series Cobra Kai – a show that is continuing to blow up with Millennials and Gen Z. He is expected to become a familiar face on-screen with the upcoming project, He’s All That, so keep an eye out for him!


Amalia Yoo is an American actress of Korean, Puerto Rican, and Greek descent. She played parts in the cast of Katie Cappiello’s SLUT: The Play in the role of Joey and A Day In The Life in the role of Eve. The Netflix series, Grand Army, was her first television role.


Giveon Evans was selected as Apple’s Up Next artist in October 2020. He is best known for his feature on Drake’s single Chicago Freestyle, which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.


Quintessa Swindell is an American actress who is best known for her role in Trinkets. She is slated to star in the upcoming 2021 films Granada Nights and Voyagers.


Midori Francis is an American actress and producer, known for her roles in Good Boys, Oceans 8, and Gotham. She is currently starring as the lead in Netflix’s Dash & Lily, which is based on a hit book series and produced by Nick Jonas.


Matilda De Angelis is an Italian actress and singer. Her credits include the films Italian Race and The Prize, and the television miniseries The Undoing.


Glenn McCuen is an American actor, model, and gymnast who has had a few roles in the industry, but will likely be a breakout in the new Netflix series, Dash & Lily, where he stars along fellow up-and-comer Midori Francis.

Luke Bracey

Luke Bracey is an Australian actor, known for his roles in Home and Away and Little Fires Everywhere. He appeared in the film Monte Carlo, and played a part on Dance Academy. He also had lead roles in the films The November Man and The Best of Me, the latter based on one of the most famous novels by Nicholas Sparks.

Julie and the Phantoms is Netflix’s latest hit, which combines singing, dancing, comedy, and drama into one captivating musical series of nine episodes. With Kenny Ortega helping direct (who is known for his contribution to the High School Musical trilogy), many were anticipating its release. Since its initial release in September, the cast has seen a rise in social following and fame. Fans are eager to hear if Julie and the Phantoms will be picked up for second season.
